Prayer for World Peace

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:27

Dear Heavenly Father, you created the amazing world that we live in, but human hatred and evil have destroyed the peace you intended. Countries are at war, while citizens are tormented and living in desolation. People hate who they are taught to hate. Your beautiful world is in turmoil and only you can bring the peace we need. World peace feels impossible, but nothing is impossible for you. Breathe the peace of the Holy Spirit into the hearts of world leaders. Open the eyes of lawmakers and government officials to see you in the face of others. Guide them to create laws that value human life and to see the benefit of all nations to coexist in peace. I know world peace is possible in the name of your son, my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayer for Peace in my Country

I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country.

Leviticus 26:6

Lord, my country is divided. People argue over politics and policy. It’s draining and feels like no one wants peace. We have ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ in our society. People blame and accuse each other for any and all reasons. We’re divided over human rights and human dignity and respect. It’s hard to see you at work in our midst at times, but I know you’re there and want us to do better. Give voters the discernment to elect officials who have your will at heart. Guide our leaders to act for the will of the people, even when it’s difficult. Lead voters to vote with your will in mind and to conduct themselves in accordance with your will to “love one another” in their daily lives. Help people understand your instruction to help the poor and needy, independent of government policy. Help my country band together against the evil in the world. Holy Father, bring peace and unity to my nation, as I know you can. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Peace in my Community

May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.

Psalm 122:7

Dear God, Teach us to be tolerant and welcoming of other races, religions, and cultures that we encounter in our communities and neighborhoods. Let your Spirit bring appreciation for our differences, because they are by your design. May we see you in people who don’t look like us and recognize we are all your beloved people. Keep our children safe in school and bring resolution between our law enforcement and citizens so neither are needlessly harmed.  Help us live in harmony with our neighbors and be a good neighbor, as you call us to be. Help me be an instrument of peace in my community, to set an example for children, and to show people the power of your love by my actions. Please grant us the peace that I know is possible in the name of your son, my Lord, Jesus. Amen.

Prayer for Peace in my Family

For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.”

Psalm 122:8

Lord, family is a beautiful gift whether it’s the family we were born into, one we were adopted or fostered into, or even friends who became family. But our human differences cause conflict that can lead to tense gatherings when these should be occasions to celebrate. We allow disagreements to come between us and we take sides. We gossip about each other and place blame. Parents and children argue and hold grudges. Heavenly Father, I know peace can begin with me. Help me to bring peace to my family by treating everyone with love and acceptance. Help me be your example of loving one another, even through differences. Give me the grace to shine your light within my family to bring us peace, in the name of Jesus Christ, Lord of all. Amen.

Prayer for Peace in my Home

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:27

Dear Heavenly Father, a home is supposed to be the place where we can feel the most secure and loved on earth. The feeling of being home is where our soul should feel content and at peace. It holds no comparison to the feeling of our eternal home with you, but it’s the human version. When there’s no peace in my home, it hurts my heart. The arguments and disrespect are the opposite of how you call us to act as your people. When I hurt those I love, it hurts me and I know it also hurts you. That’s not the person you’ve called me to be. I lose patience with those I love. I hold them to high standards that I probably don’t meet myself. I take my daily frustrations out on my family. My home needs the peace that only you can provide. Lord, guide me to do better. Let the good example begin with me. Remind me when I’m getting off track. Give me kind and caring words instead of harsh or sarcastic ones. Lord, I can make the world a better place by creating peace in my home. Help me become a catalyst for peace. Let me be an example within my family that peace is possible through the name of Jesus Christ, your Son, my Savior. Amen.

Prayer for Peace in my Heart

Jesus Appears to the Disciples… While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

Luke 24:36

Jesus, you greeted your disciples with the simple and powerful words, “Peace be with you.” If only it were easy to maintain the faith and trust in you that brings true peace to our hearts. You never promised that following you would be easy, but you promised it would be worth it. Help me to trust your promise of eternal life. With that perspective, there’s nothing in this world that can come between us, so there’s no reason for my fear. Without fear or anxiety, I’m free to enjoy and appreciate the beautiful gift of life. Heavenly Father, please bring peace to my heart. Show me how to live life according to your holy will so I can make a difference in this world and do the work that you intended for me. With your heavenly peace in my heart, I can accomplish whatever you ask of me. I pray in the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
