Helping children handle grief and loss.
Henry the hedgehog loved his pet ladybug named Lila. But after a school visit where Henry and Lila met Henry’s classmates and their pets, Lila’s spots began to fade and she passed away. Henry’s friends still had their pets, so Henry felt very alone in his grief.
His parents told him to share his feelings with God and others and that it’s okay to cry. Psalm 56:8 is used as the basis for Henry’s healing, knowing God cared about him and his sadness. When Henry shares his feelings with his friends, he finds more relief and comfort.
This is a nice Christian children’s story that will help little ones cope with the loss of a pet. It can also be used in the event of any loss where a child would feel alone in his or her grief.
Full-page illustrations by Joe Hox are fitting and adorable. Henry Says Good-Bye is part of the Good News for Little Hearts Series.

Shirley Alarie began writing adult and children's books to benefit two causes she loves. 'Hope in the Hood' portrays the incredible story of Colleen Adams providing hope and help to disenfranchised inner-city youth. 'A Healing Haven' showcases the amazing work of Shawn Jayroe and her incredible volunteers at RVR Horse Rescue. Children's books 'A New Friend for Gilbert' and the Dominick the Donkey 2-part series are based on real animals and events at RVR. Now Shirley writes for Jesus - including children's books, her FindingGodAmongUs blog, and as a Christian adult and children's book reviewer.
